保险粉广泛用于纺织工业的还原性染色、还原清洗、印花和脱色及用作丝、毛、尼龙等织物的漂白，由于它不含重金属，经漂白后的织物色泽鲜艳，不易退色。在各种物质方面，保险粉还可用于食品漂白，诸如明胶、蔗糖、蜜等，肥皂、动（植）物油、竹器、瓷土的漂白等。保险粉还可应用于有机合成，如染料、药品的生产里作还原剂或漂白剂，它是最适合木浆造纸的漂白剂。而且在水处理和控制污染方面可将许多重金属离子如Pb2+，Bi3+等还原为金属，还可用于保存食物水果等。

- 作为还原漂白剂广泛用于高岭土的漂白；毛皮的漂白和还原增白；竹制和草编制品的漂白等。
- 化学工业中用作还原剂。
